NED-Scan

The NED-Scan quantitative imager is designed to be used for early detection of cancer, monitoring therapy, and detecting metastases by imaging and quantifying very small collections of targeted cells. The device also potentially allows for cell-level-targeted hyperthermia or targeted chemotherapy delivery. The NED-Scan imager provides the following features:

  • Locates and detects even very small collections of targeted cells
  • Painless – no radiation, no tissue compression
  • Objective measurement instead of qualitative assessment
  • Limit of detection and resolution – 1000 cells (compared to 100M for a mammogram)

Other advantages include:

  • Can detect tumors of just a few thousand cells
    • Early detection is key to survival; can test less frequently and get the same coverage
  • Can detect metastases while still just a few thousand cells
    • Metastases currently are not detected until it is too late to successfully treat
  • Normal tissue is 100% transparent
    • Reduces false positives from reading normal tissue as cancer, reduces false negatives from interference from normal tissue (eg, scar tissue in mammograms)
  • Can measure changes of just a few thousand cells, allowing precision monitoring of therapy
    • Cost, radiation, resolution of other techniques do not allow frequent (eg, daily) monitoring of therapy
  • Inexpensive instrument, inexpensive test
    • Instruments can be more widely available than MRIs; tests can be performed at much lower cost
